In golf, if you wish to hit the ball straighter than anyone else, why would you want to swing like anyone else? Wouldn't you simply work at developing a swing that perfectly matches your unique physical attributes and abilities? Isn't it the same for life? You can choose to copy or you can choose to chart your own course based on your uniqueness as a person.
Golf historians don't always agree on who the best ball striker of all time was but three names continually come up, Ben Hogan, Lee Trevino, and Moe Norman. Three self-taught players with three different swings having one thing in common - a desire to hit the ball straighter than anyone else. They didn't care how they did it, what they looked like, or what others thought. In other words, they didn't follow the crowd. They charted their own course.
So as we continue our journey along the path to par, take a moment to view ESPN's tribute to Moe Norman. Hopefully you will get a sense that it is perfectly alright to be different.
"When you get it [golf swing] you won't believe your eyes. And to get it, you need to get out of your own way."
~ Moe Norman
