As a routine, each morning, when I sit down with my coffee to check out the latest news on my home page, I glance at the standings to see how my favorite team is doing against the rest of the teams in the league. Will it be a year at the top or in the cellar? Unfortunately, when I turn my attention to the PGA tour, there is no equivalent listing.
Sure, there is the regular season FedExCup points listing. However, the order does not accurately represent the current playing level of each golfer since it is heavily influenced by the number of events entered. For example, two golfers with 10,000 points would be considered “equal” in the standings even when one player achieved it in 5 events versus 10 events required by the other golfer.
To fill the gap, I created MJ’s PGA Standings. In order to get an “apples and apples” comparison between golfers, I simply rank each golfer in terms of points earned per event entered. Now, after a simple update each week, I can see the current top ten performing professional golfers.
Although today is Easter, my title reference is to the restarting of my weblogging activities. It has been a few years since my last blogging experience as MJonGolf. I had some success, at that time achieving a Google page ranking of 4 or 5, but found the golf niche a bit too restrictive relative to the thoughts coursing through my brain. As a result, content dried up and indecision set in as I tried to reinvent myself a couple of times.
Moving forward, as my tagline suggests, I wish to share, with those of you who may be interested, my thoughts about achieving “par” both on and off the course. Ultimately, my humble contribution towards overcoming our apparent lack of value based leadership. My assumption being - if it can be accomplished at an organizational level then hope is not lost at the national level.
With a modest goal to post weekly, I will have to overcome personal character flaws such as perfectionism, indecision, and procrastination. However, as my late mother (June 14, 1940 - December 27, 2007) so often stated, perhaps my third time will be a charm.
